Control sulfur levels in FCC products

To meet tighter performance standards will include innovative sulfur removal technologies as part of the refining scheme

Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) naphtha is the primary source of gasoline-pool volume and sulfur content. This blending stream is an important contributor to the gasoline octane pool. One challenge in refining is to produce ultra-low-sulfur gasoline (ULSG) with FCC naphtha while still protecting octane-rich olefins and aromatics. One sulfur-removal method uses a sorbent-based process in which sulfur-containing molecules react with a novel sorbent. The sorbent retains the sulfur atom from the molecule while the hydrocarbon portion is returned to the product stream.
