Saudi-listed National Industrialisation Company (Tasnee) has completed construction of the expansion project at the Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Company ethylene cracker in Al Jubail Industrial City and has started pilot production. The approximately $500 million project was awarded in late 2023 to South Korean contractor SGC E&C.
SEPC, a joint venture between Tasnee Sahara Olefins Company and LyondellBasell, is majority-owned by Tasnee with a 60% stake. The expansion is expected to increase olefins production at the cracker by 18%, boosting output from its previous nameplate capacity of 1 million tonnes per year of ethylene and 285,000 tonnes per year of propylene.
