The best inventions are often influenced by an individual’s background, job, education and so forth. So what are the top 10 inventions according to chemical engineers? The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) surveyed its members on their opinions on the most important chemically engineered inventions and solutions for modern times. The top three developments were drinking water, transportation fuels (gasoline and diesel) and antibiotics. Innovations that radically improved the quality of life are the clear winners, as summarized in Table 1.
