Uhde GmbH, Dortmund, Germany, has a contract with Liwa Petrochemical Co. LLC, Oman, to build a new ethylene dichloride (EDC) complex in Sohar, Oman. The EDC facility, which will have a 300,000 metric tpy capacity, will include constructing a chlor-alkali electrolysis plant. The contract is worth $23 million. Uhde's contract scope covers licensing, basic engineering and supplying equipment, as well as training the operating personnel, and assisting in commissioning activities. For the chlor-alkali electrolysis plant, Uhde will use its proprietary membrane process and the EDC plant will be based on Vinnolit technology. The plants are scheduled for completion in 2008.
