India to get first floating LNG terminal by end-2013
French power company GDF Suez, GAIL (India) Ltd. and the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh agreed to set up the South Asian nation's first floating terminal to import liquefied natural gas. India's annual LNG capacity is estimated to reach 50 million tons by 2017 from about 13.5 million tons at present.
Airgas wins fleet safety award from US gas group
Airgas received a fleet safety award from the Compressed Gas Association (CGA), the US industrial and medical gas industry’s standard-setting organization for the promotion of safety standards and safe practices. It was the third straight year Airgas was presented with the award.
Technip lands flexible pipe supply deal for Ichthys LNG project in Australia
Technip was awarded a lump sum contract to supply flexible pipe for the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Australia. The Ichthys LNG project is expected to produce 8.4 million tpy of LNG and 1.6 million tpy of liquefied petroleum gas, along with approximately 100,000 bpd of condensate at peak.
White House forms oversight panel for gas policy
The White House announced the formation of a high-level working group designed to coordinate the government's oversight of natural gas drilling and the much-scrutinized drilling method known as hydraulic fracturing. A recent boom in production has provided ample cheap natural gas in the US.
Enterprise forms partnership to build NGL pipeline from Colorado to Texas
Enterprise Products, Anadarko Petroleum and DCP Midstream agreed to build a new NGL pipeline that will start in the Denver-Julesburg Basin in Weld County, Colorado, and extend 435 miles to Skellytown, Texas. Enterprise will build and operate the pipeline, which begins service in the 2013 fourth quarter.
Jacobs wins engineering work on Afipsky refinery expansion in Russia
Jacobs was awarded a contract from Afipsky Refinery, located in the Krasnodarskij region of Russia, to develop a basic engineering package for an amine regenerator unit, a sour water stripper and an expected 55 tpd sulfur recovery unit (SRU). Officials did not disclose the contract value.
Tech Air strikes deal to buy Dressel Welding Supply
Tech Air, a Danbury, Connecticut-based distributor of specialty gases and related welding supplies, will acquire Pennsylvania-based Dressel Welding Supply. “Dressel will serve as a strategic entry point into the highly attractive Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland markets," the CEO said.
Korea's Kepco signs $3.4bn LNG deal with Vitol
Korea Midland Power said Monday that it has struck a $3.4 billion deal with Switzerland's Vitol SA to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) under a long-term contract. The power-generating unit of Korea Electric Power Corp., known as Komipo, will buy 400,000 tpy of LNG from Vitol from 2015 to 2024.
Praxair to supply gases to Trina Solar plant in China
Praxair China has won a new contract with Changzhou Trina Solar Energy Co. to supply silane, ammonia, argon, nitrogen and oxygen to Trina Solar’s new production facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. Praxair will deliver silane in tube trailers, contributing reliability, safety and flexibility in product supply.
Shell considering gas-to-diesel plant in Louisiana
Royal Dutch Shell is considering building a giant plant in Louisiana that would convert natural gas into diesel fuel, several people familiar with the company's plans said. The Anglo-Dutch company is expected to take up to two years to develop detailed engineering plans to determine if the plant is economically viable.
