A recent survey of Malaysia based chemical engineers showed a strong demand for additional technical activities in the country. The poll, conducted by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), was commissioned to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of the Malaysian chemical and process engineering community, the group said.
Dow polypropylene process technology chosen for new Qinghai unit in China
The Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Co. has selected the UNIPOL polypropylene process technology from Dow Chemical for its new 160,000 tpy polypropylene unit in China. The unit will provide polypropylene as part of Qinghai’s integrated magnesium metal project to produce homopolymers, random copolymers and impact copolymers.
GE acquires machine reliability firm Commtest
GE has announced the acquisition of Commtest, a provider and designer of machinery health information systems. GE Energy’s product line in Bently Nevada, a global leader in condition monitoring, will incorporate Commtest products into its portfolio and enhance an already robust lineup, it said.
INEOS technology for PVC, VCM chosen by Qingdao Haijing project in China
Qingdao Haijing Chemical has selected technology from INEOS to use in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and suspension polyvinyl chloride (S-PVC) technologies for a project at its new site in Dongjia-kou Pro Port Industrial Zone, Qingdao, People’s Republic of China.
ExxonMobil to sell downstream units in Malaysia
ExxonMobil affiliates have agreed to sell their interest in three businesses operating in the Malaysian downstream petroleum sector to San Miguel Corp. (SMC). The agreement includes ExxonMobil’s 65% stake in the publicly traded company Esso Malaysia Berhad (EMB), which operates the Port Dickson refinery, as well as its wholly-owned ExxonMobil Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EMMSB) and ExxonMobil Borneo Sdn Bhd (EMBSB) affiliates, which are involved in the retail, industrial and wholesale and aviation fuels businesses.
Chiyoda to work with Taiwan engineering firm CTCI on new energy projects
Japanese engineering and construction firm Chiyoda Corp. has entered into a collaboration agreement with Taiwanese firm CTCI to collaborate in the field of non-hydrocarbon projects. According to the agreement, Chiyoda and CTCI will develop and explore the business opportunities worldwide in the field of non-hydrocarbon projects, such as infrastructure, new energy resources, environmental and industrial projects.
KBR awarded technology, engineering contract for South Korea phenol plant
KBR was awarded a contract by LG Chem Ltd. (LG) to license phenol technology for LG’s 240,000 tpy phenol plant in Daesan, South Korea. The Daesan plant will be the second license by LG for KBR’s phenol technology, the company said.
CB&I venture awarded Australia LNG project work
A CB&I joint venture with Chiyoda Corp. and Saipem S.p.A has been awarded a preparation and supply contract for the Arrow LNG plant project in Australia. Arrow Energy Pty Ltd., the project operator, is a 50/50 joint venture partnered by Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina.
Alfa Laval to supply heat exchangers for Singapore petrochemical plant
Alfa Laval - a firm specializing in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling - has received an order to supply its Packinox heat exchangers to a petrochemical plant in Singapore. The order value is about SEK 110 million and delivery is scheduled for 2012, the company said.
