Honeywell UOP Synthesized Air FCC - an economically attractive carbon capture solution for FCC
5 December 2023

Sponsored by: Honeywell UOP

Refiners are under pressure to reduce the carbon footprint of their Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) units driven by the energy transition and rising ESG initiatives. FCC units contribute significantly to refinery emissions, which make up around 3% of global scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions, totaling 1,124 million tonnes in 2019. The scope 1 emissions in FCC primarily arise from coke burning in the FCC regenerator to maintain the unit heat balance and restore catalyst activity. Implementing post-combustion carbon capture in FCC units is economically challenging due to low CO2 concentrations in the flue gas, substantial treatment volumes, and contaminants content. A solution presented in a Honeywell UOP webinar is the Synthesized Air FCC technology, offering reduced carbon capture costs, increased throughput, and the ability to process diverse feedstocks, promoting a more sustainable, circular, and diversified feedstock portfolio for refiners.

Capital Project Sustainability Benchmarks – How Do Digital Deliverables Stack Up?
14 November 2023

Sponsored by: AspenTech

According to results of a recent ARC Advisory Group benchmarking survey of Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) firms and Owner-Operators, capital projects for sustainability are requiring advanced digital solutions to accelerate scale up and time to market. One significant finding: 63% of EPCs leverage key digital deliverables from design to construction stages of a project. In this live webinar, ARC Advisory Group Vice President, Peter Reynolds and AspenTech’s Senior Director of Market Research, Tricia Ryan will share the results of this important sustainability benchmarking study. Discussion points will include:

  • What is the ideal contract strategy for sustainability projects?
  • When bidding on sustainability projects, what are the top three risk factors?
  • How valuable are digital software design and build deliverables when included in sustainability project deliverables?

The webinar will also highlight case study examples of real companies advancing sustainability initiatives by leveraging advanced digital solutions.

Technology Update: The Next Generation of Helixchanger Heat Exchangers
7 November 2023

Sponsored by: Lummus Technology

Conventional shell and tube exchangers are proven workhorses in refineries and petrochemical plants for their robust nature, easy maintenance and availability. However, today’s sustainability targets and carbon reduction focus asks more of energy-dependent systems, requiring heat exchangers to deliver higher performance, increased reliability and reasonable upgrade paths, all within tighter budgets.

Join us for a virtual introduction as Lummus Technology presents its latest innovation in shell and tube heat exchangers—the Helixchanger® 2.0 system. The Helixchanger legacy and proprietary helical baffle technology includes more than 20 years of service and 7,000+ installations worldwide. This webcast will highlight the industry's current technology, explain Lummus' path in research and development, and showcase how the next generation mitigates shell side fouling, protects against vibrations, optimizes pressure drop and reduces OPEX for today’s operators.

Leveraging Integrated Butadiene Extraction for Maximum Value
24 October 2023

Sponsored By: Lummus Technology

Butadiene is an important chemical which is used to make synthetic rubbers for the manufacture of tires, shoe soles, adhesives, sealants and many other products. Butene and butane rich products can be further processed in other units to create an array of useful consumer and industrial materials. Central to this practice is the butadiene extraction process which can be integrated with a C4 acetylenes hydrogenation process to increase butadiene production, as well as with selective olefins extraction units to produce butene and butane rich products.

This webcast will cover:

  • Detailed descriptions of the butadiene extraction, C4 acetylenes hydrogenation and selective olefins extraction processes
  • The value enhancements associated with integrating C4 acetylenes hydrogenation and selective olefins extraction units with a butadiene extraction unit
  • The Lummus Technology/BASF butadiene extraction technologies and routes

How Low Carbon H2 can support the SAF Production
17 October 2023

Sponsored by: Axens

Axens will introduce some technologies that are producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) such as Alcohol to Jet, Fischer Tropsch (Biomass to liquid, Power to liquid), HEFA etc... some of the most promising pathways to support the decarbonization of the aviation sector. All of them are using hydrogen in different quantities with a strong impact in the project related to profitability (ie cost of H2) and the carbon footprint (ie origin of H2).The webcast will present some commercial projects, e-fuels and e-biofuels, where Axens is licensing its technologies and where low carbon H2 plays a key role. Some comparisons will be shown to show the H2 production cost versus the cost production of SAF.
