DuPont cuts profit outlook on weakening demand
US-based chemicals major DuPont on Friday lowered its 2011 full-year earnings outlook to a range of $3.87-$3.95 earnings per share (EPS), excluding significant items – down from a forecast last month of $3.97-$4.05/share. The projected earnings still represent an 18% to 20% increase from 2010.
Saudi Polymers JV to start up integrated petchem complex in Q1 2012
Saudi Polymers Co. (SPCo) – the joint venture comprised of Chevron Phillips Chemical and partner National Petrochemical Co. – has completed construction of its petrochemical manufacturing facility located in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Commercial production is expected in the first quarter of 2012.
Linde to build hydrogen plant at northeast China chemical complex
The Linde Group says it will build and operate a new hydrogen plant in the Jilin Chemical Industrial Park (JCIP) in northeast China. The hydrogen plant is expected to come on stream by the end of 2013, supplying several companies in the Jilin chemical complex with high-purity hydrogen.
CB&I lands engineering pact for new petrochemical complex in Russia
CB&I has been awarded a contract by OJSC Rosneft for the license and basic engineering of a naphtha steam cracking unit and a butadiene and benzene extraction unit for a new petrochemical complex in Russia. The steam cracking unit, which will be the world’s largest, is designed to produce more than 1.4 million tpy of ethylene and more than 600,000 tpy of propylene.
Sasol to launch feasibility study on possible ethane cracker in Louisiana
The board of directors for Sasol has approved a feasibility study on a possible ethane cracker and ethylene derivatives complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the company said on Tuesday. Capacity would be between 1 million and 1.4 million tpy of ethylene.
Cereplast inks bioplastic distribution deal in Turkey
Cereplast on Tuesday announced a three-year distribution agreement with GAMA Plastik AS to supply bioplastic resin in Turkey. The country is one of the fastest growing plastics markets in the world and third in terms of market share in Europe behind Germany and Italy.
Dow, Saudi Aramco finalize Sadara chemical JV; senior officials named
Dow Chemical and Saudi Aramco on Monday announced the official formation of Sadara Chemical Co. (Sadara), a joint venture between the two companies. First production units are expected to come on line in the second half of 2015. All units are expected to be up and running in 2016.

Eastman completes Netherlands resins expansion
Eastman Chemical said Friday that it has completed the expansion of its hydrogenated hydrocarbon resins facility in Middelburg, The Netherlands. With the expansion, the company has doubled capacity at the site since 2006.
Technip wins EPC deal on Thailand elastomer plant
Michelin Siam Co. awarded Technip with a lump sum turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a new elastomer composite plant to be built in Thailand. Technip’s operating center in Bangkok, Thailand will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in early 2013.
