Indonesia may opt for preferential LNG exports
Indonesia is a key LNG exporter to Asian countries like Japan and South Korea, but increasing domestic demand due to a growing economy and political pressure to control local resources is forcing the government to divert exports to local consumers, according to new reports.
Chesapeake to supply Methanex gas in Louisiana
Commencement of natural gas deliveries will coincide with the startup of the plant, which is expected by the end of 2014. This contract will enhance Methanex's ability to reliably supply quality product to its US customers for at least the next 10 years, according to top company officials.
Alfa Laval to give heat exchangers to US LNG plant
The Alfa Laval compact heat exchangers will be used in a new, major shale gas processing facility in the US where they will recover and reuse heat in the gas cleaning process, thereby resulting in an energy-efficient process. The name and specific location of the client were not disclosed.
CB&I wins Denmark gas processing project work
The scope of CB&I's current project includes a crude oil stabilization unit, gas processing units and LPG storage and transfer facilities. The operation is scheduled to start up during 2015, the companies said.
Osaka Gas believes US will soon approve Freeport LNG exports to Japan
Osaka Gas and Chubu Electric Power Co. recently signed a 20-year contract with Freeport LNG Development to import up to 2.2 million tpy each of LNG from Freeport's facility on the US Gulf Coast. The facility is slated to start operations in 2017. The Freeport contract will be effective once the US grants a license.
US energy groups spar with chemical companies over proposed gas exports
By showing favor toward exports, NAM and the ACC risk alienating high-profile member companies in industries such as chemicals and steel. Those firms, including Dow Chemical and Celanese, say unlimited shipments to foreign buyers will create added demand for US gas, raising domestic prices.
Praxair starts up new air separation plant in India
The new plant utilizes Praxair’s energy-efficient technology and has a production capacity of approximately 130 tpd of gaseous oxygen and 65 tpd of gaseous nitrogen. Praxair has supported Usha Martin’s Jamshedpur steel mill since 2000, where the company has operated two oxygen plants.
Bechtel awarded FEED work for Mozambique LNG
Bechtel is developing a design for a multi-train liquefaction plant with a nominal train capacity of 5 million tpy of LNG, and an overall LNG park plan that will allow for future expansion of the facility to approximately 50 million tpy. First commercial LNG sales from the facility are planned for 2018.
Dow Chemical splits from US manufacturing lobby amid gas export dispute
In a letter to NAM president Jay Timmons on Friday, and obtained by Dow Jones Newswires, Dow Chemical accuses the group of siding with member companies that are in the natural-gas industry, rather than adopt "a position of neutrality on an issue that clearly splits its membership."
Gazprom poised for weakening European gas sales amid economic woes
Gazprom's sales are likely to fall further in 2013 as weak economic conditions lead to continued low demand in Europe, the company's key market for natural gas. Europe and the FSU remain key markets for Gazprom, which has a monopoly on the export of Russian natural gas.
