The first phase of a major joint industry program (JIP) generated significant new engineering data and developed a new understanding of ammonium bisulfide (NH4HS) corrosion commonly found in many refinery processes. The new information has been used as a basis for developing a comprehensive predictive model for corrosion assessment of H2S-dominated, ammonium bisulfide-containing sour water systems, especially hydroprocessing unit reactor effluent air coolers (REACs) and associated inlet and outlet piping.
