Consider new methods to debottleneck clean alkylate production

New fuel specifications for clean fuels limit, if not ban, usage of common oxygenates such as MTBE. The challenge in blending gasoline is using various product streams to maintain high octane levels. Alkylate is premium gasoline blending stream; it has low sulfur and high octane values. However, the unit operations to process alkylate from light olefins use liquid catalysts such as hydrofluoric acid (HF) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4). These unit operations have processing risks associated with the acid catalyst and unwanted byproducts.
