Consider a risk-based inspection program to improve safety and availability

Within the framework of a process safety management program, this method helps to minimize maintenance costs and reduce plant risk level

Risk-based inspection (RBI) be used to evaluate the risk level of plant equipment, in this case the heat exchangers. This evaluation is performed by assigning inspection priorities, which results in reducing the facility's risk level, as well as optimizing budget resources. This article describes a method for implementing an RBI program. This semiquantitative methodology uses a hazard and operability (HAZOP) study, a checklist and identification of fault mechanisms to estimate fault frequencies or susceptibility.
