IRPC Operations: Bunker Fuel Challenge: Stable and compatible VLSFO production

By Sumedha Sharma, Technical Editor, Hydrocarbon Processing

IRPC Operations 2021’s technical segment on Alternative fuels, biofuels and Clean Fuels today began with a very practicable guide to tackle the bunker fuel challenge for production of stable and compatible VLSFO. The technical team at KNPC’s Mina Al-Ahmadi (MAA) Refinery presented the results of their detailed feasibility and pilot studies investigating blending ratios and stream qualities that are best for producing on specification product for sustainable periods of time. The presentation also analyses challenges in blending, compatibility/stability issues, quality constraints among other key factors to establish MAA’s economically feasible route to produce IMO compliant bunker fuel oil.
