SIMTECH 2018: First Hydrocarbon simulation track for professionals in the Oil and Gas industry

SimTech, the premier simulation conference, is holding its 20th annual event in Nashville, Tennessee this week which includes, for the first time, a track focusing on the hydrocarbon industries. Charles Rosmorduc, CEO of CORYS Inc. offered opening remarks followed by a keynote address by Paul Gruhn, Global Functional Safety Consultant, aeSolutions, and ISA President-elect, who spoke on the current situation of process safety and questioned whether the industry is getting any better.

Captain Mark Kelly, NASA Space Shuttle Commander, discussed some of the parallels between preparing for space exploration and industry, including preparing for missions, troubleshooting on simulators and minimizing risks.

The Hydrocarbon Track included presentations by Ron Besuijen of NOVA Chemicals and Titus Chen of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. Besuijen presented on NOVA Chemicals' simulation training program using OTS at the Joffre site. He summarized some of the cost savings recognized from their simulation applications. Chen presented on OTS benefits at an ethylene unit startup and how OTS contributed to the fastest ethylene plant startup in company history.
