Phillips 66 to lay off workers as Los Angeles (U.S.) refinery shuts down

Phillips 66 will lay off a total of 277 workers as it winds down operations at its 139,000-barrel-per-day Los Angeles-area refinery ahead of closure. According to WARN notices filed with California regulators, 122 employees will be terminated in April, following an earlier notice announcing 155 additional layoffs. The company confirmed the filings are related to idling the refinery, which employs about 600 workers and 300 contractors. More than half of the employees are hourly workers represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
