Russian oil refineries' peak maintenance expected in January and September

The peak maintenance periods for Russian primary oil refining this year are expected this month and in September, based on calculations using estimates from industry sources.

The scale of repair work this month exceeded initial expectations because some plants have been dealing with the consequences of Ukrainian drone attacks, the sources said on Friday.

Calculations show that about 5 MM tonnes (t), or 1.18 MMbpd, of Russia's primary oil refining capacity is expected to be offline this month.

The next peak, at 4 MMt, is projected to come in September.

Russia's offline primary oil refining capacity over the course of the year is seen at 26 MMt, about 5% lower than initially planned for 2025.
