Pace CCS, Foxconn, TEWE to solve critical CCS challenge

Pace CCS, a global leader in CCS design, has announced a landmark collaboration with Foxconn, the world-renowned technology manufacturer, and TEWE [Taiwan East West Enterprises (CHEMA) Ltd.], a nearly century-old sales and service provider to Taiwan’s industrial sector. Together, the three industry leaders are developing a first-of-its-kind chemical injection unit designed to address the most pressing challenge in CCS: the removal of key impurities from carbon dioxide (CO2) streams that can cause corrosion in CCS networks.

The new solution targets impurities that, if left untreated, can trigger chemical reactions leading to the formation of water, sulfuric acid and nitric acid. These byproducts can cause severe corrosion in CCS infrastructure. By eliminating these impurities, the collaboration aims to relax stringent specifications for CCS networks, significantly reducing costs, simplifying operations and protecting infrastructure from corrosion.

A game-changer for CCS and climate change. carbon capture and storage is widely recognized as a critical technology in the fight against climate change, enabling industries to capture CO2 emissions before they enter the atmosphere and store them safely underground. However, the corrosion issue is a major barrier to the widespread adoption of CCS.

The new chemical injection unit leverages Foxconn’s expertise in precision manufacturing and semiconductor supply chains, combined with Pace CCS’s deep knowledge of CCS design and TEWE’s nearly 70 yr of experience in industrial sales and service. This unique collaboration takes technical knowledge from the semi-conductor industry and applies it to CCS, delivering a solution that is both highly effective and scalable.

Global Impact and future applications. The solution has broad applicability for CCS industrial hubs set to launch across Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America this decade. By addressing the corrosion issue, the collaboration aims to make CCS more accessible and affordable, helping industries worldwide meet their decarbonization goals.
