Russia's Saratov oil refinery suspends operations after drone attacks
Rosneft-owned oil refinery in the southern Russian city of Saratov has suspended fuel production for safety reasons after Ukrainian drone attacks on Tuesday, industry sources said, expecting the plant to resume operations in a day or two.
The Ukrainian military said earlier on Tuesday that it had struck an oil refinery in Russia's Saratov region overnight, causing a fire.
Roman Busargin, the local governor, said the Ukrainian drone attack damaged an industrial facility in the region but did not identify the damaged facility.
Two industry sources said that oil processing at the refinery was suspended but key units were not damaged.
Rosneft did not reply to a request for comment.
"There is nothing serious. All main processes are fine. Processing has been temporarily stopped. It will gradually return to normal in a day or two," one industry source said.
Saratov refinery processed 5.8 MM tonnes (t) tons of oil (116,160 bpd) in 2024, equating to 2.2% of Russia's total refining throughput.
It produced 1.2 MMt of gasoline, 1.9 MMt of diesel, 1 MMt of fuel oil and 300,000 t of bitumen last year.
