KBR has been selected by Portuguese-Dutch developer Madoqua to assess and design a cutting-edge green fuels terminal in the Port of Sines in Portugal. This is a major step towards accelerating the transition to sustainable energy for Europe and is backed by the European Union. The facility will serve as a critical component of Madoqua’s green fuels corridor, linking Portugal with the Netherlands and Germany.

The partnership brings together Madoqua’s expertise in renewable energy innovation, energy transition project development and supply chain management with KBR’s industry-leading engineering and technology solutions for sustainable infrastructure. With a long-standing track record in delivering advanced process technologies and energy transition solutions, KBR will leverage its engineering expertise in liquid CO2, methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects to design this terminal.
Strategically located in the Port of Sines, the terminal will be a key enabler of the European energy transition, facilitating the storage and distribution of liquid carbon dioxide, methanol, and SAF. This aligns with global climate objectives and supports the decarbonisation of industrial sectors across Europe.
By combining KBR’s proven expertise in sustainable engineering with Madoqua’s leadership in green fuels, this initiative marks a significant milestone in Europe’s path toward carbon neutrality and reinforces both companies’ commitment to accelerating the global energy transition.
“Our involvement in such a significant green energy project in Europe is very exciting, it is indicative of how companies can collaborate to design and deliver the new generation of energy supply,” commented Paul Bansil, Director Operations, KBR Consulting. “By matching KBR’s expertise in sustainable engineering with Madoqua’s leadership in green fuels we can deliver the future of energy in Europe.”
