KazMunayGas, CNPC carbamide project at Zhanazhol gas processing plant to cost $1.5 B
The carbamide project that will be carried at the Zhanazhol gas processing plant in Kazakhstan will cost $1.5 B with capacity for 1.2 metric MMtpy, Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas (KMG) said in a Thursday press release.
KMG head Askhat Khasenov discussed the project at a meeting with CNPC President Hou Qijun, KMG said in the press release. KMG and CNPC signed an agreement of cooperation to jointly produce carbamide and other products in July 2024.
"Earlier, KMG PetroChem LLP, a subsidiary of KMG, and CNPC- AktobeMunaiGas JSC reached preliminary agreement on a feasibility study for the project. The agreement was confirmed at the meeting. The expected production capacity is up to 1.2 MMtpy of carbamide. The cost of the project is about $1.5 B," the press release says.
The project will create 3,000 jobs during the construction period and about 400 permanent jobs for the subsequent operation of the carbamide unit.
Kazakhstan's demand for carbamide, a sought-after fertlizer, is estimated at 350,000 metric t–400,000 metric t.
Agreements were earlier reached with the licensors of the carbamide production technology and with the largest international fertilizer trader in order to export the product in the future.
CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas develops the Zhanazhol, Kenkiyak oversalt, Kenkiyak subsalt and North Truva oil fields in the Aktobe Region, west Kazakhstan, and has built three gas processing plants. CNPC is the ultimate owner of the company.
KazMunayGas is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state interests in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan.
