LOT Polish Airlines and SkyNRG partner for SAF offtake
LOT Polish Airlines and SkyNRG have joined forces to advance the aviation industry's sustainability efforts. As part of the partnership, LOT purchased SAF from SkyNRG and received an independently audited report to verify the environmental impact. This collaboration underscores the airline's unwavering commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and minimizing the environmental impact of aviation.
The agreement with SkyNRG is a proof that LOT Polish Airlines is consistently striving to reduce the environmental impact of flight operations. We have implemented a Fuel Efficiency Management Policy that influences the reduction of CO2 emissions from our flights, and the provision of SAF to aircraft at Amsterdam Airport is part of the implementation of LOT's decarbonization strategy. LOT's Polish Airlines cooperation with SkyNRG is a guarantee of a lasting business relationship between two strong players in the aviation market – said Dorota Dmuchowska, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of LOT.
Under the partnership, LOT opted for a Book and Claim arrangement, ensuring the delivery of SAF to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport's hydrant system, rather than directly fueling its fleet. This enabled LOT to access the carbon reduction benefits of SAF, without physically using the fuel on its own aircrafts, saving carbon emissions and costs from unnecessary fuel transport.
LOT took a collaborative approach to fund the SAF offtake from SkyNRG, involving voluntary contributions from passengers who share their dedication to lower carbon emissions. This SAF offtake underlines the alignment of LOT’s vision and efforts with the expectations of environmentally-conscious passengers.
LOT's purchase of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) is evidence of a consistently implemented strategy under the Destination ECO program. The agreement with SkyNRG is the next milestone of a sustainable and balanced direction within the framework of reducing emissions from our flight operations, also in the context of the adopted strategy for 2024 – 2028 – stated Mateusz Dziudziel, Director of Fuel Department at LOT.
Theye Veen, Chief Commercial Officer at SkyNRG, expressed their enthusiasm by saying, “We are thrilled to partner with LOT on this journey towards sustainability. By choosing our SAF and the innovative Book and Claim method, LOT is showing they care about what their passengers want and demonstrating their commitment to more responsible aviation practices. We look forward to supporting them as they continue to make the aviation industry more sustainable”.
This offtake is the first step in a growing ambition between SkyNRG and LOT to contribute to a greener future for aviation and support the aviation industry to achieve its net-zero target by 2050.
