Amec Foster Wheeler has been awarded a consultancy contract by INPEX for the Ichthys LNG Project in Australia. Ichthys is the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in the last 40 years.

The scope of work involves Amec Foster Wheeler providing a team of production and maintenance assessors to carry out competency assessments for the Ichthys operations and maintenance teams across all project assets. This includes the central processing facility, floating production storage and offtake vessel and the Bladin Point LNG onshore processing plant. The assessments will be aligned to Australian national competency standards for the process industry.

Amec Foster Wheeler’s contract will run until April 2017, with the assessments to be conducted at the construction yards in Korea, offshore Western Australia, and at the onshore LNG facility in Darwin.

Located in the Timor Sea, about 220 km offshore Western Australia, Ichthys represents the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 40 years. Currently in construction, it is ranked among the most significant oil and gas projects in the world, and is, effectively, three mega-projects rolled into one. The project involves some of the largest offshore facilities in the industry, an onshore processing facility and an 890 km pipeline uniting them for an operational life of at least 40 years.
