KBR awarded grassroots dividing wall column contract in China

HOUSTON – (May 31, 2016) – KBR announced that it has been awarded a license and basic engineering design contract, by a confidential client, for a grassroots Distill-Max Stabilizer Column in Shandong Province, China.

Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide the licensing and proprietary equipment package for the Distill-Max dividing wall column (DWC) technology. Distill-Max DWC technology, developed by KBR, enables a single column to achieve high separation efficiency and deliver products, at required specifications, at lower capital and operating costs than alternative separation solutions.

John Derbyshire, President of KBR Technology & Consulting, said, “This project demonstrates our commitment to deliver innovative technologies that help the client meet their performance objectives. Distill-Max technology is a cost-effective option to help clients increase their separation efficiency, at reduced energy demand, with lower grassroots capital investment than alternative solutions."

KBR licensed the first Distill-Max commercial unit in 1998 in the UK, and has since executed a number of Distill-Max projects globally. Presently, there are 10 Distill-Max columns in commercial operations in various refinery applications.

The value of the contract was undisclosed and was booked into the backlog of unfilled orders for KBR’s Technology and Consulting division in 1Q 2016.
