Compressor malfunction sparks brief fire at PBF’s Delaware City refinery

PBF Energy announced Friday that its Delaware City refinery experienced an unplanned shutdown of its fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit due to a compressor malfunction resulting in flaring and a small fire.

All refinery personnel are safe, and there were no injuries, according to PBF officials, who said that the fire has been extinguished.

The appropriate public officials and government agencies were notified, the company said.

"We are continuing to monitor and assess the situation in order to properly evaluate the impact of the incident," PBF said in a statement.

PBF added that the refinery continues to operate its unaffected units at reduced rates.
