Ensus to cut 22% of jobs at idled UK biofuels site

Biofuels company Ensus said Friday that its Teeside ethanol plant in northeast England remains offline, adding that it is now consulting the staff about possible job cuts.
The plant, one of the largest in Europe with 400,000 cubic meters of annual bio-ethanol capacity, was closed temporarily in February due to adverse market conditions.
"It is widely anticipated that it may take up to a year or more for European demand and prices to sustainably improve," the company said in a statement.
Ensus told the 98 staff members at the Teeside plant that up to 22 job cuts may be needed, according to news reports.
Germany-based ethanol group CropEnergies acquired Ensus in 2013.
