Gas leak at Georgia refinery leads to one worker death, three injuries

A hydrogen sulfide leak at the Young Refining facility in Douglasville, west of Atlanta, Georgia, has killed one man and injured three others, according to authorities.

Matthew Kent with the Douglas County Fire Department said one man died after falling from a height of 20 ft after his mental state was altered by gas inhalation.

His name was not immediately released.

Kent confirmed that three other people were injured: one suffered gas inhalation, one suffered cardiac arrest and the third had a minor injury.

The accident started when a worker at the refinery went into cardiac arrest. As he was being helped, a vent was somehow opened, which released the hydrogen sulfide gas.

The worker who died was rendering aid when he was sprayed in the face by the gas, causing him to fall 20 feet off of a platform, according to news reports.
