Linde to purify helium for Weil plant in Canada

The Linde Group has been awarded a contract to provide its helium purification and processing technology to Richmond, Virginia-based Weil Group Resources.

The helium plant, to be located near Mankota, Saskatchewan, Canada, will process 10 MMcfd of natural gas and produce industrial grade (99.999%) helium.

The plant will be the first of its kind to come onstream in the province since the 1960s and is expected to be operational by early 2016. Linde Gas North America will purchase Weil's industrial grade helium production under a long-term purchase – sale agreement.

"The Mankota Project is of strategic value for Linde, given the dynamics of the helium market," said Nick Haines, Linde's head of Global Helium Sourcing. "This agreement will forge an alliance with Weil in helping source new helium, a vital gas with many important high-tech industry applications."

Linde, one of the largest gases and engineering companies in the world with approximately 63,500 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide, specializes in helium processing technology and gas distribution. Weil is a privately owned company exclusively engaged in finding, drilling, developing reserves for and producing industrial grade helium.

Weil Group Resources is privately held and develops niche energy and resource projects in North America and emerging markets. The company also has international experience in enhanced oil recovery in mature oil and gas fields, as well as nickel mining and processing, in Colombia, South America and the Philippines, respectively. Weil said it has developed a portfolio of helium bearing projects.
