New Middle East mega-refinery YASREF delays exports until next year

Fuel exports from YASREF are put on hold until next year, company sources said on Friday.

YASREF was mechanically complete in June and began commissioning and test runs in September.

The new refinery is designed to process Arabian heavy crude into a variety of high-quality, “clean” transportation fuels and other products.

At full capacity, YASREF will produce 263 Mbpd of diesel, 90 Mbpd of “clean” gasoline, 6.2 Mtpd of petroleum coke, 1.2 Mtpd of pelletized sulfur and 140 mtpd of benzene.

Most of the refined products will be exports to Asia and Africa as well as to meet regional demand in the Middle East.

According to sources, the refinery will now only offer oil products early next year. No reasons for the delay have been released.

YASREF is the second refinery to start up in Saudi Arabia in the past two years.
