Rompetrol upgrades Petromidia refinery coker unit

BUCHAREST -- Rompetrol Rafinare said it has completed a $53 million investment in upgrading the coker unit at its Petromidia refinery, Mediafax said.

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member company of The Rompetrol Group, said total investment in Petromidia refinery amounted to $600 million in the past five years.

"Revamping the coker unit was part of The Rompetrol Group and its sole shareholder KazMunaiGas' strategy to align Petromidia's installations to the latest European quality standards", said Sorin Graure, General Manager of Petromidia.

Modernization work began in 2008 and was developed in partnership with Rominserv, the general contractors of Rompetrol, and ConocoPhillips. Construction and start up of the project took place between 2010 and 2013, Rompetrol said.

Petromidia's coker unit has a total processing capacity of 1.7 mtpy of residual oil.

Rompetrol is fully owned by KazMunaiGas.
