US bill seeks to remove DOE from LNG permits

US Representative Ted Poe (R-TX) has introduced bill HR 2471, the Expedite our Economy Act of 2013.
If passed, the bill will remove the US Department of Energy (DOE) from the approval process for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction and export terminals.
The proposed bill would transfer the regulatory authority concerning LNG exports directly to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) by amending the DOE Organization Act.
This would save a great amount of time and uncertainty regarding the current plethora of proposed LNG projects, which are concentrated along the US Gulf Coast.
Although there are as many as 18 LNG terminal projects pending approval, the DOE has only granted two applications in the past three years
