Saudi Polymers starts up commercial operations at Al-Jubail complex
Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. announced that Saudi Polymers Co. (SPCo) and its joint-venture partner, National Petrochemical Co. (Petrochem), have started commercial production at their polymers manufacturing facility in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Commercial production was originally expected to commence in the first quarter of 2012.
The integrated SPCo petrochemicals complex includes units that are capable of producing 1.22 million tpy of ethylene, 1.1 million tpy of polyethylene, 440,000 tpy of propylene, 400,000 tpy of polypropylene, 200,000 tpy of polystyrene, and 100,000 tpy of 1-hexene.
In addition to direct sales to serve Saudi Arabian demand, SPCo will manufacture products to serve growing world demand through its exclusive distributor, Gulf Polymers Distribution Co., utilizing Chevron Phillips Chemical's global marketing network.
SPCo is owned 65% by Petrochem and 35% by Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chevron Phillips Chemical.
