PetroChina achieves on-spec LNG at Ansai project
PetroChinas Ansai LNG project in Shaanxi Province has produced qualified LNG in one liquefaction trial, parent company China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) said in a Tuesday statement.
The successful trial marks the industrial application of the double mixed refrigerant (DMR) process, independently developed by CNPC's China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corp. (HQCEC).
The process is the first of its kind regarding large-scale gas liquefaction in China, the company said.
Shaanxi has been a hotbed for natural gas activity in recent years, particularly with shale and coal-bed methane.
CNPC said the successful debut of the Ansai LNG project indicates a major step forward in relevant proprietary technology development and will also facilitate economic development in the local area.
Late in 2009, HQCEC won the engineering and construction contract on the Ansai LNG project from CNPC-affiliated Kunlun Energy.
During project implementation, HQCEC formulated large and medium-sized gas liquefaction technical packages, realized localization of primary materials, part of the equipment and the control system, and developed the DMR process with proprietary intellectual property rights.
