Chemtura raises capacity in Italy for polyurethane prepolymers

Chemtura says it is increasing its production capacity for its Adiprene and Vibrathane range of high-performance polyurethane prepolymers at the company’s Latina Scalo facility in Italy.

Engineering work at the Latina site is already complete and startup of the additional production has commenced, the company said.

“Growing demand for our market leading range of Adiprene / Vibrathane prepolymers, driven primarily by the commercialization of our mercury-free, MDI-based product lines, has motivated our decision to increase capacity in Europe,” said Stephen Lewis, EMEA business director for Chemtura Urethanes.

“Local manufacturing capacity is critical to the urethanes business,” Lewis continued. “Our customers need the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to local market demand and to satisfy their own customers’ lead-time requirements.

“The additional capacity at Latina will provide the flexibility our customers need to remain competitive.”

“This investment further supports our strategic growth of the Urethanes business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region,” said Matthew Hellstern, president of Chemtura Urethanes.

“In addition to the capacity increase, we are planning the enhancement of our EMEA technical development centre, also based at Latina, which will enable our team to offer customers in the region even better technical support capabilities.”

The prepolymers are used in a multitude of industrial applications and markets where high wear resistance, toughness and durability are essential requirements, according to the company.
