Brazilian oil and gas company Petroleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras, said Thursday it signed an accord with the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais to boost output of biodiesel there.
The accord foresees investments of up to 28 million Brazilian reais ($16.2 million) to increase the capacity of Petrobras's Montes Claros biodiesel plant by 40% to 152 million liters/year and to include small-scale agricultural workers in local biofuels production activities, Petrobras said in a statement.
Petrobras has five biodiesel plants with the total capacity to produce 721.4 million liters of biodiesel a year in Brazil's Minas Gerais, Bahia, Ceara, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul states.
