Toyo lands project management deal for Venezuela refinery upgrading work

Toyo Engineering, in consortium with a Venezuelan engineering firm Y&V Ingeniería y Construcción, has been awarded a project management consultant contract for a heavy oil upgrading project of Venezuelan national petroleum company PDVSA at its Puerto La Cruz refinery in the State of Anzoátegui.

This project is aimed at increasing processing capacity at the refinery with maximum use of the extra heavy oil produced at Orinoco Oil Belt.

This would satisfy the energy demands of the domestic market in Venezuela and overseas exports, the companies said.

This is an epoch making project, Toyo said, in the sense that the main unit of the project is the first commercialization of a heavy oil upgrading technology developed by PDVSA’s R&D center (PDVSA Intevep).

With consortium partner Y&V, Toyo has been collaborating with the on-going Moron fertilizer complex project in Moron, Venezuela.

Based on the team work that Toyo has established with Y&V, the consortium will, jointly with PDVSA’s project team, perform PMC services to manage and control several contractors engaged in the project up to its startup, the companies said.
