Developing nations seen making better efforts on climate change - official

Developing countries are making more effort to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions than the developing world and that imbalance is threatening the future of the Kyoto Protocol, Venezuela's climate change representative said Tuesday.
"We are ready to go beyond and do our share but we are asking for the equivalent movement from developed countries," Claudia Salerno said during a briefing at the United Nations-sponsored COP17 climate talks that started on Monday in Durban, South Africa.
Ecuador's representative Tariscio Granizo said there are real concerns that few countries sign up to a second Kyoto commitment period after the current one expires in 2012.
"After Kyoto we don't have a clear program," Granizo said.
Countries are meeting the next two weeks to negotiate a future for the Kyoto Protocol as well as to try and raise $100 billion for a Green Climate Fund.
