Albemarle opens environmental R&D facility in US

US-based specialty chemicals producer Albemarle has opened its new environmental research and development facility at its headquarters in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

This new facility will allow the newly-formed Albemarle Environmental Division to expand its capabilities into multi-pollutant control, while significantly growing its capabilities in environmental research, the company said.

The lab provides advanced analytical capabilities and new equipment for advanced research.

This new facility is located at Albemarle's product development center (PDC), which includes Albemarle Environmental Division's duct injection unit for evaluating sorbent effectiveness in customized synthetic flue gas.

The new R&D lab represents a $1.5 million investment in new facilities and instrumentation to improve the company's product development efforts, it said.

Albemarle Environmental Division is a part of the company's global fine chemistry unit. That segment is full-service, solution provider to the coal-fired utility, cement kiln, and industrial boiler markets, supplying a variety of proprietary, powder activated carbon (PAC) sorbents, advanced sorbent injection systems, bromine chemicals for mercury removal, and testing and demonstration services.
