Technip to engineer Gabon ammonia-urea project
Gabon Fertilizers awarded France-based Technip with a strategic engineering contract for a world class grassroots ammonia-urea fertilizer project to be developed at Port Gentil, Gabon.
The proposed project includes a 2,200 tpd ammonia plant and a 3,850 tpd granulated urea plant with self-sufficient utility and offsite units and product export facilities.
Under this contract, Technip will perform the front-end engineering design for the project as well as the detailed cost estimate for the engineering, procurement and construction phases.
Upon completion of the front-end engineering and detailed cost estimate, this contract can be seamlessly converted to a lump sum turnkey contract, the companies said. Technip will also assist Gabon Fertilizers in project financing efforts.
Apart from giving considerable flexibility in the optimal design of the plant, this methodology is expected to result in significant savings in both the capital expenditure cost and project schedule, the companies said.
This is ideally suited for projects in remote locations where the costs and the time schedule are difficult to estimate accurately.
Nello Uccelletti, senior vice president of onshore operations for Technip, said: This award constitutes the first major contract in the revived ammonia-urea fertilizers market and is recognition of Technips know-how and experience.
Through this project, we are very keen to develop strong relationship with Olam International and TATA Chemicals for future developments in fertilizers and in other segments.
The project will be executed by Technips operating center in Paris, France ,with support from the Rome, Italy and Chennai, India operating centers.
