India ammonia group picks KBR for engineering, technology license

KBR was awarded a contract by Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) - a Jaypee Group company - to provide license and engineering design services for JAL’s brownfield 2,200 tpd ammonia plant in Kanpur, India.

KBR is licensing its Purifier technology, which it says provides the lowest energy consumption as compared to other technology offerings in the market.

KBR’s design will enable JAL to build the ammonia unit with lower energy consumption and reduced capital costs, it said.

The new unit will be set-up in an existing plant at the Kanpur site, which was recently acquired by JAL. The award follows KBR’s execution of a revamp study for JAL’s existing three identical 450 tpd ammonia trains completed in late 2010.

“KBR is pleased to support the Jaypee Group’s expansion into the fertilizer market,” said John Derbyshire, president of technology for KBR.
