Worker dies at ConocoPhillips refinery in Illinois during maintenance work

A contract worker died on Tuesday afternoon after falling from a large tank at the ConocoPhillips refinery in Wood River, Illinois, according to a local news report.

Contractor Bradley Edmund, 38, was doing routine maintenance on a storage tank when he fell about 45 feet from a metal scaffold, said the report from St. Louis, Missouri-based radio station KMOX.

The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the accident along with ConocoPhillips’ own safety team, according to the report.

The company operates a 362,000 bpd joint-venture refinery in Wood River, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). It is the eighth-largest refinery in the US.

ConocoPhillips did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
