QSolar doubles photovoltaic panel output in China

QSolar Ltd. has added a second production line for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in its manufacturing facility in Shanghai, China.

The addition of the second line doubles the production capacity from the 20MW/year (about $30 million/year) to 40MW/year (about $60 million/year).

Andreas Tapakoudes, QSolar CEO, said: "We are very excited with these developments and the speed at which our facilities continue to expand in preparation for the execution of the large LOIs, which may result in purchase orders at the end of 2011.

“This increased capacity from the company's own manufacturing facility will lead to increased profit margins and we are anticipating further margin increases when the commercial production of the Kruciwatt cells begins," he added.

QSolar products were introduced in July 2010 and have attracted significant interest, orders and letters of intent from European and US markets, officials said.

QSolar Spraytek panels offer several advantages over competing products as they have significantly lower losses in hot climates due to their design, offer superior solar cell encapsulation for better protection and longer life and cost less than equivalent products, the company noted.
