Praxair inks hydrogen supply deal with Hemlock polysilicon plant in Tennessee
Praxair has signed a multi-year contract with Dow Corning joint venture Hemlock Semiconductor to supply high-purity hydrogen to Hemlock’s new $1.2 billion polysilicon manufacturing facility under construction in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Praxair will build and operate an on-site hydrogen generating facility and supply liquid hydrogen by truck. Plant startup is scheduled for 2012, the company said.
“Praxair’s relationship with Hemlock Semiconductor goes back 35 years,” said Anne Roby, president of Praxair Electronics.
“We look forward to continuing to grow with Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C. as it meets the growing demand for photovoltaics and semiconductors.”
Praxair also supplies nitrogen and hydrogen to Hemlock Semiconductor’s polysilicon facility in Hemlock, Michigan.
“Our contract with Praxair will provide a long-term, economical and reliable source of hydrogen for our Clarksville facility,” offered Stuart Bolland, Americas direct procurement manager for Dow Corning.
Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
