Dow Chemical CEO pushes for US debt ceiling deal

Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris is calling on US politicians to reach a “unified action” on the nation’s debt ceiling crisis.

Worries about the impasse between Republicans and Democrats over the debt ceiling have risen as prospects seem to be fading for a deal to cut the federal government's massive debt.

Such a policy is needed to lift uncertainty from the US economy and marketplace, Liveris added.

“Business doesn’t have a seat at the table in these talks, but we sure have a stake in the outcome,” the CEO said in a Friday statement.

“All Americans do - we are all in this together,” Liveris continued. “There’s huge opportunity for our nation if both parties reach a meaningful agreement, and huge consequences if they do not.

“We need a resolution as soon as possible and urge all involved in the negotiations to continue to work towards a solution that eliminates uncertainty and puts stability into our economy.”
