New diesel hydrotreater from Axens starts up at Ras Tanura refinery

A grassroots diesel hydrotreater unit (Prime-DTM), licensed by Axens, has successfully been put into production at Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura refinery, company officials said on Friday.

The 105,000 BPSD(bbl per stream day) unit – one of the world’s largest – produces ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) which contains less than 10 ppm of sulfur, the companies said.

The plant achieves the guaranteed performances as specified to Saudi Aramco, officials said.

Axens’ designed Prime-D unit uses HR 600 series catalyst and EquiFlow reactor internals, enabling the 550,000 BPSD Ras Tanura refinery to comply with environmental standards.
