Celanese doubles capacity of vinyl acetate ethylene unit in China
Celanese has successfully doubled capacity of its vinyl acetate and ethylene (VAE) unit at its integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China.
The expanded unit, which builds on Celaneses advanced VAE technology, started production in the second quarter of 2011, and is expected to meet increased global demand for innovative specialty solutions in vinyl-based emulsions, the company said.
Vinyl-based emulsion solutions span a broad range of end-use applications, including low VOC (volatile organic compounds) odor paints and coatings with Celaneses EcoVAE binder, specialty adhesives, and building and construction applications.
This geographic expansion demonstrates the strength and vision of Celanese as a global emulsions leader applying regional resources to continually innovate and improve our technology in emerging economies to meet our customers business needs, said Phil McDivitt, general manager of Celanese Emulsion Polymers.
Celanese opened its integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China, in September 2007.
The complex, located at the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park, brings world-class scale to one site for the production of acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer, acetic anhydride, emulsion polymers, Celstran long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (LFRT) and GUR ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE), officials said.
