Dow applauds House Republicans for jobs agenda

Executives with US major Dow Chemical voiced support for recent progress they said had been made on the jobs agenda by Republican leaders in the US House of Representatives.

With the US facing an economic crossroads, Dow said the US could either stay on its current course, or could reinvigorate economic growth through fundamental reform on many fronts.

Dow said it fully supports the six elements in the jobs agenda from House leadership as the foundation on which the US can improve its competitiveness and spur job creation.

Those elements are consistent with those identified in the Business Roundtable’s roadmap for growth and in Dow’s advanced manufacturing plan for America, company officials said.

Dow is particularly encouraged to see a focus on regulatory reform and improvements in the tax system, said CEO Andrew Liveris.

“At Dow, we know all too well that ill-conceived regulations can slow and stall the engine of job growth,” said Liveris. “Dow fully supports regulatory reform proposals that streamline the rule-making process and make regulations more flexible, targeted and compliance-oriented, while preserving important safeguards for human health and the environment.

“Similarly, simplifications to the US corporate and individual tax codes can provide added fuel to our economy by lowering the cost of doing business, attracting US investment and encouraging job creation on our shores,” he continued.

“We know that the road to fundamental reform and economic growth is long. Dow looks forward to the national conversation on these important issues.”
