Klesch buys German refinery from Shell

Shell has agreed to sell its refinery in Heide, Germany, to Klesh.  The sale of the refinery includes the associated equipment, chemicals, bitumen and distribution.  Both parties have agreed to the purchase price and it is now subject to approval by the antitrust authority.

The Heide refinery has a capacity of 4.5 million tpy and employs about 570 people.

The sale is part of the Shell strategy of investment worldwide to focus on major sites such as the Rhineland refinery and to dispose of 15% of global refining capacity.
