Haldor Topsøe signs contracts with YPF Argentina

YPF Argentina and Haldor Topsøe have signed two contracts for the production of hydrogen and ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) at the Lujan de Cuyo refinery in Mendoza Province, Argentina. Topsøe will supply a skid mounted compact hydrogen plant – of the HTCR type – to boost the hydrogen production at the refinery. Due to the compact layout and preassembled skids, the delivery of the plant reduces the project schedule compared to traditional plant designs.

Topsøe’s scope of supply includes license, engineering, catalysts and equipment. The plant will use the latest generation of Topsøe’s hydrogen catalysts and will be able to operate on multiple feedstocks.

Topsøe will supply a reactor design package for a hydrotreater being able to produce ultra low sulphur diesel. The scope of supply includes design of the reactor, basic engineering, catalysts and proprietary reactor internals  The reactor will use the latest generation of Topsøe’s Brim catalysts already used by YPF in a number of hydrotreaters in its refineries.

“The signing of the contracts marks a new chapter in our relationship with YPF. From being a long time catalyst supplier we will now provide YPF with technology solutions to produce hydrogen and ULSD in Argentina. The two projects further strengthen Topsøe’s position as one of the leading technology suppliers for the refining sector in Latin America,” said Director Mads Feddersen from Topsoe’s subsidiary in Argentina.

The start-up of the units will take place in 2012.
