A chemical "<a href="https://www.ipeadvisor.com/thermal-oxidizer">scrubber</a>" is something that will trap a particular chemical (or a number of chemicals) that is present in the exhaust gases coming from somewhere (a chemical reactor, or maybe just your fumehood/ fumecupboard). So a carbon dioxide scrubber is a gizmo that will remove CO2 from the air you send through it. It's usually contains a base, because CO2 is acidic; the by-product is a non-volatile salt.
